Bread Making for Beginners

Note that these are old course details. Click here for the updated course.

This course is aimed at complete beginners and will cover everything you need to know to make old fashioned bread.

The course starts with tea and biscuits. In the morning we will use 2 different types of yeast to prepare 2 batches of dough. One will be used to make a family-sized loaf of wholemeal or white bread and the second will be used to make a chocolate, dessert bread.

While this rises we will make a frying pan pizza for our lunch. Lunch will also include salads, drinks and a dessert.

After lunch we will prepare our two breads and bake them.

While we wait for these to prove and cook there will be a demonstration of how to make Tudor ginger bread as a good way to use up leftover bread.

We aim to finish between 2pm and 3pm. This will depend entirely on how long it takes the bread to rise which depends a lot on the weather on the day.

The cost includes lunch and refreshments, course notes, all your ingredients, and of course your loaves of bread to take home, enjoy and show off your new skills.

Please bring your own apron; bread making is a lot of fun, great stress relief but potentially very messy.

More courses are planned for Autumn 2013, including more advanced recipes, some using a sour dough starter. Please contact me if you are interested and I will give you advanced notice once I have the dates and course content finalised.
